About Me

WaiChun CHAN was born in 1999 in Hong Kong. His first instrument was the euphonium, which he began playing at the age of six. At nine, he switched to the trombone, and eventually discovered the tuba at the age of twelve — his main instrument to this day.

CHAN is currently with his second Master’s program in Specialized Soloist at the Zurich University of the Arts, where he studies with Professor Anne Jelle Visser. He finished first master program Music in Performance in the July 2025.

He received education from HongYip CHENG who major in horn, Paul LUXENBERG, principal tuba of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and TakChun LAI, former principal tuba of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.

During his studies, CHAN participated in the Swire project “Share the Stage” with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017. In 2019, he was a guest principal tubist with the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, and in 2024 he assumed the position of principal tubist with the Asian Youth Orchestra.
